Random stuff about new season
We're coming along pretty well with new season, although we're behind as usual. Just thought we'd post some random pics of stuff

first off here's a couple of bags of some of the fabric we will be using, we've sourced some very interesting traditional check fabrics and suiting, as well as some more sportswear type fabric.

here's the first pic of one of our new handmade t-shirts, we are now starting to make our own t-shirts (something which we tried a couple of years ago but coudn't get right), we will still use some of the ones we buy and print but there will be alot more of our own handmade ones. (by the wya the necks not finished if the pic looks weird).
Finally we've been working out ideas for a photoshoot for the new season designs, bizarrely we both found the work of a photographer called Tim Walker whilst looking (seperately) for inspiration. Click on the image to see more of his work - it's worth it!!!

New Vintage New Season

Yesterday we picked up some new vinatge handbags and shoes, which will be in Afflecks from Wednesday.


We also found a load of really cool vintage ties, pardon the pun but they really 'tie' in with our thoughts for the new season menswear, which is a bit of a smarter look (don't worry we'll still be doing t-shirts and stuff). I took a photo of myself to kind of sum up the idea behind it, hope it helps - if not just wait for the new collection!!!!

tomorrow is our final (hopefully) design meeting before it's all out making new stuff. We also hope to bring in some new things at the fashion market this weekend - hopefully we will have some new style flannel (check) dresses and the first introduction of our new handmade t-shirts. Will post pics later in the week.

New old photos on web and new season news
We're still in the process of updating and revamping the website, today we uploaded all our photos of Afflecks from the last two years so you can have a look how it's changed and developed.
We're busy working on new season, we picked alot of our fabric yesterday, the prints are nearly finished and we're just finalising the garment designs. Today we worked out a pattern and made up a sample of a new t-shirt, so for this season we will be making some of our own t-shirts. We're also going to be expanding the range of our collection with alot more constructed pieces. Next tuesday will see us finalising the designs so we will upload some more stuff then.

Today we covered a mannequin in stickers & we're in a magazine!!!!

Well we didn't - Naomi who's with us on work experience did (thank you) it's going to be for our new improved fashion market set up.
We've also been featured in the new issue of Sport & Street - we like getting featured in this magazine as it means you get a free copy (normally it costs £30), they have a copy in Magma if you want to have a look.

New Vintage & New Market
It's Tuesday so we will have some new vintage accessories going into Afflecks today, we've also managed to source some braces which are proving popular this season (and next). Today will also see us begin work on revamping the fashion market stall, hopefully by next week it will look completely different.
Just thought I'd post this picture, because we like it, it's the kind of look we will be going for with the new season photoshoot. In fact we were looking for suitable locations over the weekend.

Hats, Website & Free Bags!!!!
Today was spent making some new trucker hats using random bits of fabric, here' some pics.

and finally... we've begun work on changing the website, the first page and the home page/menu have been changed so far - hope you like them!!!!

What I'm doing, myspace comp and stuff
Today I've decided I'm going to re-do the website, probably change the front page and menus and stuff. The problem with knowing how to design websites is that you tend to just spend your time fiddling about with them and changing them, if we had to get someone else to do it we'd just leave it!!!!.
Also we just got a cheap video camera of ebay so we're going to make some Me&Yu films and put them up on youtube, some of these will be informative and will show you how we work, others will just be stupid.


I just found this band Chester French on Myspace (where else) and really like their look and sound, kind of have a preppy look which is a big influence for our new season mens, anyway go look at there myspace - Chester French
Talking of bands and myspace, we're running a new competition on there, we've added 8 bands to our top friends, just comment or message us with your favourite and why you like them, and if we agree we'll enter you in a draw to win a t-shirt.

Fashion Inspiration??
We never made the car boot sales, it just rained all morning so we ended up reading the sunday times and watching Gerald Mc Boing Boing.
As part of our aim to post more interesting blogs and try and be more informative we thought we'd post stuff about people who inspire us, or who's look inspires us, this will be a random thing but we may as well start now. First off is Ladyhawke

check out her myspace here. She will definately be an inspiration for our new collection. She rocks this kind of vintage edgy cool which is kind of what we're aiming for.
Secondly it's Tim Burgess

I was always a big fan of the Charlatans but kind of stopped listening to any of there new stuff a few years ago, I suppose I didn't see them as relevant anymore, more like a throwback to the 90's. Anyway recently Tim Burgess has kind of reappeared on my radar because all the recent photographs I have seen of him he seems to have this very interesting look, I don't know whether it's him or me thats changed. Anyway in a weird coincidence I'd been thinking about brown brogues whilst trying to work out 'looks' then I saw an interview with him and he had a pair on!!!. Talking of music this week we will hopefully be listening to Annie, although Angies in the shop 2 days so it will probably be the Ting Tings (who we've just go tickets for in October).

Details Matter

Just being doing my morning scan through the internet for bits of inspiration and stuff, and I found the above pic under the header details matter. This is gonna be the ethos for our new collection, we're interested in those tiny little details that make something just that bit more interesting, more special. For those of you interested we spend quiet a bit of time just scanning the internet for interesting new ideas and looks, the best place to go are the hundreds of street style blogs that exist for most cities. Have a look at Dam Style (click to view) which is pretty good and also has a big long list of links to others, Hoy Fashion is also really good for local stuff (Manchester & Liverpool). Just incase you wondered why we're up so early on a Sunday, Sunday = car boot day (although it's just started raining)

Market, Blog & Stuff
We've decided to try and post more blog stuff and kind of give you all an insight into how we work and what we do. We get alot of requests for work experience (most of which we say yes to) and hopefully we have some knowledge to pass on??!!! so hopefully thats what the blog will be like, we will also copy and paste it over to our myspace blog so you can read it there as well. Every now and again we look at the blog and think it's probably a bit boring as really it's just stuff that we've got for sale etc. We've probably said it before but this time we promise to put up more interesting stuff, we will also add more interesting vids to our youtube page (probably). Anyway today was a bit of a weird day, afflecks was very busy and we sold some mens t's which we haven't done for a while whereas the fashion market was really really quiet, it did rain really heavy though. Afflecks seems to be getting busy again now, getting it's buzz back abit, in the next few weeks a new and improved cafe is opening so the third floor should be back to it's best. We're planning on organising some events and stuff, but give us a bit of time. Well that'll do, oh I was trundling about on myspace before and I remembered our friend Nickie had done some photos of Robots in Disguise (and they happened to be wearing some Me&Yu, so here's a pic. We were gonna go down to the Boosh festival (today) to watch them, but we had to work!!!

AArgh Sunglasses & Super Super

Our Afflecks store has been invaded by sunglasses, yesterday we unearthed a box of deadstock vintage sunglasses in a weird blackpool shop. This is the sort of find that makes you wonder if you're dreaming or not. Anyway we took them all to Afflecks today, and rather than just put a few out we decided to fill our lovely old cabinet with them. As we we're doing this a delivery of guess what.. yeah more sunglasses arrived, this time some very cool heat changing mirrored wayfarers - it's sunglasses heaven!!!

Paranoia - Me&Yu goes to Blackpool (finally)



Even though we live in Blackpool (and began there) we've never actually had a stockist there (simply because there has never really been anywhere of interest to us) so we are glad to announce that Me&Yu is now available at Paranoia, 104 Topping Street. They've got a good mix of mens and womens mainly t's for men and some of our handmade dresses and a small amount of t's for women.

Festivals

We don't want to sound like your mum but all of you that are off to festivals this summer don't forget it gets cold in the evenings. So what better way to keep warm than one of our lovely mid season sale hoodies currently in Afflecks. Those of you that can't get to Afflecks why not try your luck with one of the lucky dip hoodies from the online shop. Most of them are new season stock with the odd old classic and random sample thrown in for good measure.

New Season look??,

We're currently doing all our research for our new collection. I can exclusively reveal it will all be about fairytales and stories (robots and monsters too). We're going to be designing slightly different this year in that we will be concentrating more on the clothes and not just on the print. So expect some very interesting results. Although the print will be about fairytales the aesthetic of the collection will be heavily influenced by 80's high school movies, (Weird Science, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club etc), Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Geeky Rappers, Preppy, Dandies and some other stuff we're still looking at. The reason for the imge above is that it kind of sums up the look for menswear. It will all make sense when we release the new stuff!!!

Cut Copy

Cut Copy (our current favourite band) are playing in Manchester on Monday (30th) at Night & Day. I would definately recommend anyone who can to go and see them. Typically it's on a Monday which is our only day in Blackpool!!!. Have a listen on myspace, or call into the shop as we're always playing them.

New Mens Stuff, new dress and accessories!!
We've got some new menswear in Afflecks, more of the handprint (they will definately be online very soon), we've also got a new style summer dress in some gorgeous printed flower fabric. This week we've been busy photographing all our accessories and some jewellery which we will be adding to the online shop in the next few days, then later next week we will start photogrpahing our vintage pieces to go online. Here's some pics to show what we've been doing!!!


we've also got some new photo t's in Afflecks, basically before all this Me&Yu stuff I (Gordon) used to be a photographer so I've been going through some of my old images and turning them into t-shirts. There made using high quality transfer paper and at the bargain price of £15. Here's one:

Whilst browsing the web last week I came across this cool idea of reverse graffiti, where rather than painting on the wall you actually clean away the dirt to create your image

Also those of you around Manchester I would recommend a trip to the Green Room (Whitworth St) to check out the exhibition by Jane Samuels' , The Abandoned Buildings Project, it's on until the 23rd June. We think the images are amazing, we had already decided to use some masks in our next photoshoot (we're not copying!!!)

Dresses, website and music
If you visit the online shop some of the links to the different pages on the menus on the left hand side are not working, but if you navigate to the home page you can go from there, apologies for this but I've only just realised and it's too late to change them all now.
Angie has (with some help from our French work experience girl Marie) been busy making load of new dresses this week, if you're around manchester tomorrow pop down to the market or afflecks and have a look, they are very cool. We're kind of trying to do more one-off stuff like we used to. I will try and get the new stuff into the online shop early next week, I've got so much to put in, no doubt I'll run out of time.
Next week in the shop we will mostly be listening to:
The Oldboy v Mat Payne DJ battle (it's a bit old but I only just remebered I downloaded it from the Oldboys myspace and have got it on the mp3), also lots of Midnight Juggernauts and Cut Copy as always. I keep forgetting about the new Presets album so I might play that as well.

New Stuff in Online Shop


We're just in the middle of updating the online shop, we've just added some new mens accessories and hopefully will be putting the womens up soon. Over the next week (or so) we will be adding more designs and some vintage and accessories.
